well, since no one else is going to say anything, I guess I will.

This weekend was quite active. Saturday I got up early and went for a pretty long walk (up to Town House Hill) then I picked up the Boy at Mom's and he walked back with me. We saw 3 otters playing on the Mill Pond. After that I don't really remember what I did except I must have had some coffee, and I cleaned some. Oh yeah, I took a really long nap. Then I made stir fry (pork, broccoli, carrots, onions, peppers, special herbs, spices and sauces). Then I made a cake for the Shorey boys and went over to Delmon's for "2nd supper" (yes, I ate like a hobbit) but I didn't have much. Who could resist Togue chowder (not me, especially when Delmont is cooking). The cake I made was one of Aunt Dena's recipes shortcake with applesauce in the middle and a delicious brown sugar frosting. A VVG time was had by all (despite my Pittsbug team losing).

Sunday we all got up and went to Bangor to Brunch, we had jambalaya, bacon, grits, eggs, bagel pizza's fruit, coffee cake and beignets. Oh and Cafe du Monde (coffee from New Orleans that has chicory in it). It's WONDERFUL. I was vvg and only had fruit a little jambalaya and one piece of bacon (though I did have one Mimosa and several cups of joe).

After that we went to Old Navy and fought with the kids and bought clothes. We came home and I repotted some tomatoes and planted some impatiens. Watched BBall, golf and Harry Potter and went to bed.

There. I did it, I would think you could too....

man are we losers....

Day 3: Animal Kingdom

Amy: My favorite was the Dinosaur ride. Leigh bought us lunch at the Rainforest Cafe---Thanks, Leigh! You were with us in spirit!

Isaiah: I like cake. I like cake. Cake. Cake. Favorite ride? (hum) Safari

Maddy: We are SO going on Everest again.

Amy: Never

Isaiah: NEVER!

Today my highlight was the frozen coke at Animal Kingdom and the safari, where we actually saw a LOT of animals. Also, we went to Epcot and watched the fireworks. They were pretty great. Tomorrow we're hitting the movie studio.

Today we all went to Epcot. I think it's fair to say that the highlight of everyone's day was Soarin'. If you haven't done it, look it up. I thought Amy was going to smack me when it started because she's afraid of heights...but it was fun.

Maddy--Soarin' is really really really cool.

Isaiah--I like pie.

Amy's taking GG back so she can't comment.

Isaiah was a shopping FOOL today. He insisted on going into EVERY gift shop in World Showcase. We're all going to bed now. Tiyad.

Today we ventured out to the Magic Kingdom after Amy picked up GG. Here are the kids reviews:

Isaiah: I like pudding cups.

Maddy: I dunno. Just "wow".

GG: I had a wonderful time. GG got free ice cream because (I THINK) I bought ice cream for everyone else but she wanted to buy her own...so when she got to the guy he just said "it's on me" and I think he gave me a dirty look. Nobody stepped on my toe all day so it's a good thing. The fireworks were good.

Well today we hit several highlights of the MK. We went on It's a Small World and I think they have changed the end a little...doesn't seem as chaotic. We also went on Pirates (loved it), Haunted Mansion (worst crowd of the day), Country Bear Jamboree (Amy and Maddy agree it's just like being at RK's on Thanksgiving), Maddy and Isaiah LOVED Space Mountain. And we went on Splash Mountain, where I promised Maddy she would just get a little wet, but as soon as we went around the first corner we were ambushed by a log coming down the big drop--and ALL the water on one side landed in OUR boat. SOAKED. For the rest of the day. We saw the light parade and the fireworks, which the kids loved both. We ate ice cream and popcorn and we're waiting for pizza because we haven't eaten since lunchtime. Tomorrow, Epcot.

pasta

I have a pasta machine, too, and have used it a few times. I know you THINK your pasta rocked, but you really can't judge until you've made it from semolina. Anyway, I the last time I made pasta, I spent all day making a boatload of fettucini and I had a pasta party, where the guests were all required to bring one small amount of sauce. It was good to have the variety and gave every one an assignment (which people love).

I made pasta for the first time yesterday and have decided that this is something that everyone should do at least once. This was a life changing experience for me, really. I even missed most of the Superbowl because I was having so much fun! I made sun dried tomato pesto and mozzarella ravioli’s and just a little bit of spaghetti and some fettuccini just for fun. I froze the ravioli’s and cooked the other stuff. It was SO good that I don’t even have the words to describe it.

I want to make two other kinds of ravioli’s, one with a lobster filling and another that I haven’t decided yet. I think I’ll have a dinner party next weekend!

A shout out to Michelle N who let me borrower her pasta machine and gave me a great recipe for the dough and the ravioli’s. You rock!

something to do on the plane/in the airport (DS, book, etc)

toothbrush (auntie will have toothpaste obviously)
the hotel will have soap/shampoo/conditioner/etc
deodorant. extra for isaiah's feet.

Note on the children. if they're toenails and fingernails are so long as to draw blood while sleeping with them, they're not allowed to come. also, visible earwax is discouraged.

Inauguration Day Part II

When everything was over we stood around for about an hour until we decided to go up 18th street to Dupont Circle. It was about a mile walk from the mall. It was an unforgettable experience because as we walked, there were two million people walking with us. The whole street was full of people as far as the eye could see. Full ahead of us and full behind us. When we looked to the streets beside where we were walking they were just as full. We just walked slowly for an hour, everyone was happy.

No adventure is complete without a trip to Starbucks, right? So that's where we went when we got to Dupont Circle. I got my new fav, chai latte and Ellen got a coffee. After that we tried to get into every restaurant in DC to eat but they were all full. We finally found a hole in the wall Pizza place and had an excellent slice of pizza. That's where I saw that Senator Kennedy had medical problems.

At about 4:00, after both our cell phones ran out of battery and, therefore, we lost communication with the rest of our group, e and I got on the subway and went back to the car.

I drove about 3 hours on the way home and had a very good conversation with one of my fellow travel-mates, Natalie, about a guy that thinks that he is carrying a cow around on his back. It was one of those conversations you have when you're over tired.

Unfortunately, aside from the pizza, there was no good dining on this trip. I know if I went with my sisters, there would be more restaurant stories...

Inauguration Day

Well, what a great time we had in DC! We arrived Monday afternoon and walked around the city three or four times in the freezing cold! I saw the FDR memorial and the Korean memorial for the first time. We went to all the others too. FREEZING COLD, i say! By the time we got settled in at the hotel it was midnight.

This wasn't a trip of a lot of sleep. I slept four hours on sunday, three hours on Monday and i didn't sleep at all on tuesday! Some people say insomnia's a bad thing but it comes in handy at times!

Tuesday morning we boarded the subway station. Thank you, rk, by the way for signing me up for those text messages! I was so glad to have instant updates of the full lots and closed stations, as was everyone else on the train! It definitely made the day easier. Anyway, we got on the train and went to Federal Triangle, which happened to be open when we were going by. The station was packed. My friend, ellen, and I walked out of the station and, in the process, we "accidentally" got seperated from the rest of the people we went with. They were all annoying me so i was not in the least bit unhappy about it.

Ellen and I walked up the side of the mall until we decided it was a good time to jump some barricades and try to get into the mall.... It worked! we got to stand on the side of the mall. We stood for about an hour before everything started. During that time I had a nice conversation with a gentleman from New Orleans. he told me how he lost his house in the hurricane and how his life has been so different since then. He was a good guy.

You all saw the festivities so I won't go into that. I couldn't see anything but I heard everything. There were tears of joy, "O-bam-a" chants, jeers for Bush, flags waiving, it was great. We just stood there and took it all in.

i am so looking forward to 1-20-09 (aka-The End of an Error).

i am looking forward to a president that doesn't treat people that disagree with him as traitors. i'm so glad that we will have a leader that encourages participation with those he disagrees with. and not one that just surrounds himself with "yes" men and needs his ego stroked all the time because he's incompetent. i hope that the GOP comes up with a new political philosophy and gets back to what a republican used to mean. although, when i see and listen to their current leaders, or potential leaders, i don't see it. whenever i listen to them i feel i've been transported back to 1995. i'm glad that when i see the typical "rovian" republican, they look like dinosaurs to me. truly the Grand OLD Party. it's not that i hate republican philosophies. i agree with a lot of their principles. but that's not what they have become. they're currently mutated into a party which relishes in blurring the line between church and state. i'm glad to have a leader that believes government does have a responsibility to it's people. not one who got into government with a philosophy that government is only for incompetence and needs to be dismantled. privatization has proved to be no cheaper and has no accountability or responsibility to the country. only to it's CEO's who award their bad management abilities with multi-billion dollar bonuses.

so it's your last day W...don't let the door hit you on the way out.
